RIO DE JANEIRO - At least 10 people were killed and 99 others were injured in a highway accident in Brazil's southeastern state of Parana on Saturday night, a local fire brigade said Sunday.

The accident occurred on the PR-323 highway, between Paicandu and Doutor Camargo, in northern Parana, when two buses collided before a van, a car and a motorcycle crashed into them.

One of the buses was rented by a religious group traveling to Maringa, 115 kilometers from the accident site, while the other was from a tourism company which traveled from Umuarama-Maringa.

The fire brigade said that 99 people, of whom six were seriously injured, were taken to three local hospitals.
