Sanquan Temple, on the hillside of Mount Wutai and near the town of Taihuai, Shanxi province gets its name from the three ever-bubbling springs in a well beside the temple.
Yuanzhao Temple, called Puning Temple in the past, was built in Ming Yongle period (1403-24) on Mount Wutai.

The Sansheng Temple, in the north of Fanzhi county, is quiet and beautiful structure built during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127), and renovated during the Jin (1115–1234), Yuan (1271–1368) and Ming (1368–1644) dynasties.

The Northern Peak of Mount Wutai, where Lingying Temple stays, is the highest point, at 3,085 meters above sea level, and the highest point in northern China, so it has long been known as "The roof of North China".
