Disciplinary watchdogs in Dongguan, Guangdong province, are investigating accusations that a township official owns real estate and luxury cars worth 2 billion yuan ($328 million).
A whistle-blower’s post on online forum Tianya.cn said that Lin Weizhong, a vice-chairman of the National People’s Congress’ Houjie township branch in Dongguan, owns more than 100 properties and bought several vehicles worth more than 1 million yuan each, news portal people.com.cn reported on Nov 20.
Lin is alleged to have abused his power and protected local gangsters, the report said.
A spokesman for the discipline inspection commission in Dongguan confirmed that the watchdog has received a report on the official, and that an investigation into the accusations is ongoing.
