YANGON - Myanmar and the United Nations have vowed to work together to improve Myanmar people's social security, state media reported Friday.

The pledge was made by Myanmar Defense Chief Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and visiting Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General Vijay Nambiar in Nay Pyi Taw.

Min Aung Hlaing said he wants to see stability and development in the country and would contribute to the reform process up till success, though there are challenges in the process.

Noting that UN was pushing Myanmar in the past and is currently assisting Myanmar in its reform process, Nambiar voiced recognition of Myanmar defense services' efforts to achieve peace with ethnic armed groups, expressing UN's interest in its role in implementing democratic and peace making process.

Myanmar Vice-President Sai Mauk Kham and parliament Speaker U Shwe Mann had met with Nambiar shortly after his arrival.

It is Nambiar's sixth visit to Myanmar after U Thein Sein's government took office in March 2011.

Nambiar last visited the country in January 2013.
