MANILA,the Philippines - Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III said on Thursday that former President and incumbent Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo could be properly secured if she would be placed in a government hospital.
Aquino made the reaction after the Pasay City Regional Trial Court handling Arroyo's election sabotage case ordered her transfer from a private hospital to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City within five days.
"I believe the security that could be provided there is better, " the President told reporters.
At the same time, Aquino called the alleged plot to kill Arroyo as a fiction.
Arroyo's camp has said that they received reliable information on the so-called "Oplan Put the Little Girl to Sleep," which aimed to kill the former president.
The President said there was no motive for the government to kill Arroyo because his administration has been pushing for the " conviction of those who committed wrongdoings."
"We cannot convict if the accused is not there anymore," he said.
