Getting to know the real Ms Wang through the internet

With Huya, Wang says, the number of viewers really is in three digits, although in most cases it is related to the promotion of her agency.

This time she signed a three-year exclusive contract. Huya, with larger capital, pays her a basic 4,000 yuan a month, plus a cut of fans' donations.

But the exclusivity clauses of her contract stipulate that if she ever appears on a competitor's platform, she faces a penalty of as much as 300,000 yuan. On the other hand, if she suddenly decides to quit there is no penalty, she says.

Wang says she feels live internet broadcasting has passed its peak and she is applying to study psychology in Japan.

"I don't want to go down with everyone else. I want to make my exit beforehand.

"For me, the live broadcast is just a tool. I don't want money; I want to be understood. Through the camera I hope people want to know the real me."
