Virgin Money challenge expedition

Team US trek on the first day of the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge 2013 expedition in Antarctica December 1, 2013. Prince Harry set off on Sunday on his 300 kilometre (186 miles) walk to the South Pole for the charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) to raise money for wounded servicemen and women. The Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge 2013, of which Harry is patron, will see the participants race across three degrees to the South Pole. All 12 injured service personnel from Britain, America, Canada and Australia have overcome life-changing injuries and undertaken challenging training programmes to prepare themselves for the conditions they will face in Antarctica. Trekking around up to 20km (12 miles) per day, the teams will endure temperatures as low as minus 45 centigrades (minus 113 Fahrenheit) and 80 kph (50 mph) winds as they pull their 70 kg (154 pound) sleds, known as pulks, towards the southernmost point on the globe.
