Located in North China's Shanxi province, Mount Wutai is one of the country's four famous Buddhist mountains, along with Mount Putuo in Zhejiang province, Mount Emei in Sichuan province and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui province. It is home to many of China's most important monasteries and temples and is considered a holy land of Buddhism. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. |
