There was an opening ceremony for the celebration of Sakyamuni's day of leaving his earthly body, on Jan 27, at the Pushou Temple on Mount Wutai, Shanxi province, with all the nuns and monks in the area in attendance.

The Great Master, Shangmiao Xiayin, presided over the ceremony, where the disciples chanted sutras to celebrate the legacy of their prophet, then went around the temple to pray to 88 Buddhist statues, and pray for peace, happiness, justice, world, and freedom from disasters.
