An agreement was reached between Lijiang of Yunnan province and Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, to boost cooperation in tourism.

The strategic cooperation framework agreement was signed in Lijiang on June 15, with both sides agreeing to work together on tourism.

Mu Chonggen, member of the CPC Lijiang Municipal Committee, briefed participants on tourist conditions in Lijiang and expressed his confidence in the partnership.

"Henan has a large population and is one of China's economically strong provinces, boasting unparalleled advantages as a transportation hub", said Mu.

Lijiang, although a popular tourist city in China, is under pressure to upgrade its tourism and regulate its market. The cross-regional collaboration will benefit both sides on the basis of complementary advantages. There is a lot of room for the two cities to work together, Mu noted.

Fa Jianqiang, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Zhengzhou Municipal People's Congress, said that he was deeply impressed by Lijiang's natural scenery and ethnic culture.

"The agreement marks the first step in bringing the two cities closer together. More discussion will be held to hammer out the details of the partnership", added Fa.
