Volunteers in Lijiang, Yunan province have recently enriched the lives of children in remote mountainous areas by providing them with books to greet the World Book Day which falls on April 23.
The team from the Yunnan branch of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co organized reading activities in the Wenxiang Primary School of the Yongsheng county in order to help students develop an interest in reading and cultivate good reading habits.
Liu Kai, a volunteer representative, made a speech, saying that reading has a positive influence on people's spiritual life and encouraged the students to study hard and acquire extra knowledge from books.

The volunteers designed a blackboard newspaper with the theme of "World Book Day" with the students, helping them get further knowledge on the day itself. Suggestions were also offered to improve their reading and writing skills.
Located at the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, 1,960 meters above sea level, Wenxiang Primary School is plagued by poor transportation conditions and limited teaching resources. In the school, only seven teachers are available to provide lessons to 60 students from four different classes.
Students just moved into new teaching buildings in November, 2017, getting rid of the previous dilapidated houses made of brick and wood which suffered from roof leaks and cracks in the walls.
Children receive new books and schoolbags with excitement and express their gratitude with a salute. |
