Lijiang, a plateau city in Yunnan province, has ranked fifth as one of China's best resort cities, local media reported on July 28.

The 2017 China Top 10 Summer Resort Cities list was released by Hong Kong's China Institute of City Competiveness–which has been evaluating Chinese cities since 2002.

Lijiang's fifth place put it behind only Kunming, Guiyang, Harbin, and Xining.

The city has long been a tourism hotspot, thanks to its warm winters and cool summers providing ideal getaways for both domestic and international travellers.

Lijiang's annual average temperature is between 12.6 C-19.8 C, with a mean temperature in the hottest months between 18.1 C-25.7 C. In winter, the temperature ranges from 4 C-11.7 C.

Due to it being located on a plateau, Lijiang is blessed with 2,530 hours of sunlight per year–well above the national average.

Pleasant temperatures and loads of sunshine combine with beautiful natural scenery in the area to make Lijiang a truly attractive tourist destination, worthy of its high ranking.
