Shanghai Feixun Communications reassured its commitment, along with the local government, to build the largest data center in West China and to transform Lijiang into a smart city, at a product launch event on March 23.

Agreements were signed early this year between Feixun, China’s top 100 manufacturer of networking and communications products, and Lijiang, seeking to boost tourism through cloud-computing technology.

According to the 3.8-billion-yuan ($800-million) investment agreement, Feixun plans to establish a big data industrial park in Lijiang, using a 18.3-hectare area to accommodate 300,000 servers.

Some 25,000 wireless access points will also come into service to facilitate real-time queries for key information for visitors, such as weather forecasts and air quality measurements.

At the product launch, Feixun CEO Gu Guoping, said the company’s newest router, the Phicomm K3, will play a major role in Lijiang becoming a smart city.

“Our new Phicomm K3 router, which was awarded the prestigious international iF Design Award 2017, will make all of the things happen that we set out to achieve,” said Gu.
