Hit with a cold spell in an otherwise warm spring, Yulong Snow Mountain, in Lijiang city, Yunnan province, has just had its first snowfall, according to a report in Kunming Daily on Feb 21.

The late spring cold snap brought a sudden drop in temperature, about 5 degrees below average to 0 C, resulting in the snowfall on the mountain.

The late arrival of snow was good news for tourists, who flocked to the area to see the extraordinary silver-coated scenery.

According to the National Meteorological Center, the biggest cold wave of this year, the result of two cold fronts, is forecast to last through Thursday, and will be accompanied by strong wind and rain.
