Lijing No 9 rice had a high yield of 367 kilograms per acre in 2014, Lijiang Daily reported.
Lijiang No 9 rice is a special species developed by the Lijiang Agricultural Science Institute. It has an extremely high cold resistance. The institute has planted 145 mu of this kind of rice in Lijiang’s Ninglang county.
The red rice of Ninglang county has always had a low yield problem, with an average yield being only 220 kilograms per mu. In a disastrous year, the land may yield no crop at all.
The farmland passed the inspection of Ninglang county, Lijiang city and Yunnan province, with a yield of 367 kilograms per mu, 50 percent higher than the nation’s average yield.
The Lijiang Agricultural Science Institute has chosen two species of red rice for exhibition at Mosuo Farm, which will be sent to Shanghai for trial sale.
