The Yunnan provincial tourism officials recently examined the Laojunshan Park and approved its application to be a national 4A scenic spot.
Jiliang now boasts seven scenic spots, namely, Luguhu Lake, Black Dragon Park, Yushuizhai, Shuhe Ancient Town, Dongba Valley, Guanyin canyon, and the Dawn Scenic Spot of the Laojunshan National Park
Laojunshan has rich diverse geological, biological and scenic resources. The park is recognized as a world natural heritage site, a national geological park and a national scenic spot.
The park was run by the Liijang Tourism Investment Company, established on April 30, 2009. Over the past six years, the company compiled a general plan for the park and a detailed plan for the Dawn Scenic Spot and won the approval of the municipal government.
A total of 400 million yuan ($2.56 billion) was invested for the development and operation of the park. The park now features a tourism complex combining a hotel, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and sight-seeing.
In April 2013, the company launched a campaign to apply for 4A national scenic spot status under the supervision of the Lijiang Tourism Development Commission.
In July 2014, the Lijiang Tourism Bureau (Lijiang Municipal Tourism and Development Commission) inspected the site and set some requirements, which were met. The Bureau subsequently recommended the designation to the provincial tourism authority on Sept 16.
Now the Dawn Scenic Spot has become a landmark and a popular destination at the national park.
