With an altitude of 2690, the scenic area is cool and even in summer the temperature is lower than 30 ℃, an ideal place to spend the summer.
The lowest temperature in winter is -4 or -5 ℃. But the lake does not freeze in winter. It is usually enough to keep warm if you take a light fleecy sweatshirt and a coat. Early in the morning or midnight are the only times when the temperature is below 0 ℃.
The temperature difference between night and daytime is huge, so it is advisable to bring thick coats in every season.
Lijiang is sunny, with ample sunshine about 290 days out of the year. Seventy percent of the annual rainfall falls between June and September. Hats and sunglasses are must. You are also recommended to bring sunblock that is SPF 30 or above..
If you do not plan to hike or camp, you can leave the outdoor equipment behind. You can always find people around the lake and Mosuo-style homestay hotels. You can walk into the ancestral houses of the locals to chat and taste their unique tea.
Mobile phones may suffer from bad signals because of the high mountains on both sides of the lake. Luckily, the signal will improve dramatically when you enter the toll station of Lugu Lake.
