Dropping into a bar
Bars during the day are quiet. You can chat with bar owners and watch people come and go. Bars at night are suffused with sweet flavor. Some whisper, some chuckle, some look around, and some sing. It seems that everybody can free themselves under the shield of the dim light of night. The deeper the night, the more misted the eyes. If you get drunk, don't worry, just go back along the river.
Talking around a stove
All you need to do is to join a group of locals, sit around a stove, listen to the Lijiang dialect and chat about life in and outside Lijiang.
Photographing
Lijiang is full of extraordinary sceneries, where nearly everything could look fantastic in your camera. Different from Tibetan sceneries, which are clear no matter how you photograph them, taking pictures in Lijiang requires photographers to use a discerning eye, excluding some parts so the image doesn't look messy. If it is your first time in Lijiang, don't take pictures in haste. Look at the scenery and compare it with other peoples work in various handbooks and postcards.
Traveling by bike
You can rent a mountain bike and speed along the straight road from the new town to the snow mountain, watching the scenery pass you by. You are free and unrestrained. Along the road, you can also pick up stones or wild flowers and say hello to strangers. However, you'd better take some protective measures as the plateau sunshine is pretty strong.
Dozing off
You need two conditions to doze off comfortably: a cozy temperature and no important things at hands. It is true that Lijiang is full of people who meet these two requirements. The sunshine is warm and the sky is clear. You can walk, stop and walk again.
