Express Airways, the only low-cost airline in Hong Kong, recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Yunnan Airport Group, of Yunnan province, on direct flights to Lijiang, in Yunnan, at the opening ceremony of the 13th Routes Asia Conference, in the city of Kunming, Yunnan province.
The flights are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year and the number of flights from Hong Kong to Kunming, Yunnan's capital, will increase to two a day.
A senior HK Express Airways executive said that, because of its location, Kunming's Changshui International Airport is very competitive in the Southeast - South Asian aviation sector, the Yunnan market demand is good for a low-cost airline, and this will give both Hong Kong and Yunnan greater exposure.
Statistics show Hong Kong Express Airways with considerable growth in its passenger volume, to 151,306 this past January, an increase of 160 percent, compared with the same period last year.
