After 30 years of reform and opening-up, Lijiang has developed into a world famous tourism site from an unknown small town. Tourism is now Lijiang's new calling card. The following are the two characteristics of Lijiang's tourism industry:
Size
"Lijiang has plenty of tourism resources," said He Yaoxin, director of Lijiang's tourism bureau. Yulong Snow Mountain is the southern-most snow mountain in the Northern Hemisphere. Laojun Mountain is the biggest Danxia landform area with the highest altitude in China. Lijiang ancient town is a surviving ethnic ancient town. Lugu Lake is one of the purest plateau lakes in China. Also, Lijiang has the world’s only surviving pictographic writing system, which is named the Dongba character.
Diversity
Lijiang is located on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, which is a coastal area of ethnic migration. It is famous for its characteristic local culture, while also being open to different ethnic groups and mixed cultures. Take the different festivals in Lijiang as an example. In Lijiang, there are many different festivals including the Torch Festival of the Yi ethnic group, Wuxi Festival of the Pumi ethnic group and the Broad Season of the Lisu ethnic group.
