Hai Nan, a female poet from Yunnan, won the sixth Lu Xun Literary Prize with her poems from The Sad Black Reindeer. In her words, the poems are her love letter to heaven and earth.

Hai Nan gave an interview on Sept 22 while at the rehearsal for the award ceremony. “I feel grateful that the Lu Xun Literary Prize has granted me the best honor in this world,” said Hai.

Hai is called one of the most controversial female poets, and her works are full of mystery and sorcery. Another Yunnan writer, Tang Shijie, said that it’s not that Hai needs to win the Lu Xun Literary Prize, instead, it’s that the Lu Xun Literary Prize needs her.

According to the judging panel: “Hai explores Yunnan’s diverse culture and customs with her curiosity. Hai’s poems have a style of their own.”

The Lu Xun Literary Prize, a literary prize awarded by the Chinese Writers’ Association, is one of China’s top literary prizes. The prize is named after Chinese novelist Lu Xun (1881-1936), who was a leading figure of modern Chinese literature. The Lu Xun Literary Prize was created in 1986 and has been awarded every three years.
