The third Top 10 Chinese Leisure Cities ranking was unveiled at the 2013 Chinese Leisure Development Forum on Dec 9, 2013. Lijiang of Yunnan province made the list.

It took four months to organize the list. Through a series of procedures, like nomination and recommendation, online voting, ad hoc survey and professional appraisal, 10 out of 60 cities were finally selected. They include, in order, Lijiang, Guilin, Sanya, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Kunming, Chengdu, Nanjing, Dalian and Yangzhou.

According to the respondents of the city ranking, Lijiang, Sanya and Guilin have a relaxing atmosphere. Hangzhou, Sanya and Qingdao are well-equipped with recreational facilities. People in Hangzhou, Chengdu and Sanya have strong leisure awareness and sufficient leisure time.

Guilin, which formerly ranked first place as a leisure environment city, has dropped out of the top three. According to experts, this change reflects peoples’ evolving leisure sensibility. People are no longer satisfied by scenic spots alone, they need to truly relax physically and psychologically.
