The number of tourists- both from home and abroad- traveling to Lijiang reached 20.8 million in 2013, up 30 percent year on year. The tourism industry’s profits increased by 32 percent that year, to 27.87 billion yuan ($4.51 billion), according to the Lijiang municipal tourism bureau.
In 2013, Lijiang focused on the development of its tourism culture industrial parks and leisure tourism to push forward the industry’s transformation and upgrades. As of the end of 2013, 27 airline companies opened regular flights to Lijiang, and 39 Chinese and overseas cities have air routes to Lijiang. With an annual passenger volume of 4 million, Lijiang is now one of the regional airports with the biggest passenger traffic.
