According to ynci.cn, a modern Chinese ink wash painting exhibition themed Zhong Guo Yi Jing ("Chinese artistic conception") opened at Yunnan Provincial Library, Kunming, on Sept 7. A total of 11 leading Chinese artists will attend the exhibition and participate in exchange programs.

Altogether 64 paintings from the 11 artists will be on display. The works reflect the painters' understanding of Chinese paintings in a new age.

Guan Yuliang, a national-level artist, said that changes in beauty standards have lead to changes in lifestyle. People cannot talk about today's artistic conception without discovering modern beauty and people's concerns about the independence of the soul. Only by using proper materials and techniques can the theme be expressed precisely.

The cultural and art development of Yunnan lags behind Beijing and Shanghai. The organizers hope to build a cultural exchange platform with the exhibition, bringing active artists in Eastern China to the West. "Actually, there are many good artists in Yunnan waiting to be found," an organizer said. "We plan to host such activities every year or half-year. We'd like to invite more artists to Kunming. Yunnan has huge potential in artwork collection and investment. As a major tourism province, it has the conditions to be an artwork trading center."
