A national volunteer activity is launched in Lijang, Yunnan, on June 28th.

The launch ceremony of a national volunteer activity to protect mountains and rivers was held in Yulong town, Lijiang, Yunnan province on June 28th. The activity, with the theme “protect mountains and rivers, build a beautiful Lijiang”, will continue until December.

Zhao Jin, Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department Minister, said that the volunteers are promoting the idea of protecting nature, and advocating a green consumption concept which aims to curb extravagance and waste.

Zhao also said that this volunteer activity, called Yun Ling, involves 6 major provincial projects and 129 county level projects which all concern river conversation, ecological restoration, soil and water conservation, fauna and flora protection and water source protection.

There are three national volunteer programs in Yunnan province: the first one focusing on protecting Erhai Lake, another program to protect Dianchi Lake and a third program that focuses on Lijiang River.

One of the activities of the volunteers, “hand in hand—say no to littering”, took place during the launch ceremony on June 28, with the participation of about 230 pupils and 70 parents.

Yunnan boasts natural resources and a rich biodiversity, and the province plays a strategically crucial role in protecting the ecosystem at the regional, national and even international level. Yunnan has made substantial progress in ecological civilization construction.
