Set to leave on Dec. 12th, Robert said he would introduce Hangzhou to his friends in French as a beautiful and happy place to live in. He also would choose about 1000 photos from his works of Hangzhou to tour in French, Germany and put them into an album.

Robert started working on the China Interior since 2004. He travelled in Xinjiang, Yunnan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, Shanxi, Guizhou, met local people, got to know them, blend into their lives for a short period of time and took pictures of them inside their homes. The pictures are mostly pictures of ordinary people or ordinary life that each carries silent yet powerful message.

About Artist Reside in Hangzhou Project:

Inspired by International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, Yuhua, a famous writer in China best known for Xusanguan sold blood, proposed to Hangzhou government of initiating a similar residency program that each year invite several established artists, writers from all over the world to live in Hangzhou for an internal of half year and record this city in words, pictures, etc.
