Miaomiao, who is two months younger, fell into a 4-m-deep well when the two boys were playing. Jiongfei used a bamboo pole with a hook at the end to catch Miaomiao's collar and keep his little friend afloat.

A woman surnamed Chen who lives nearby heard the boys struggling and went to investigate.

"I saw Jiongfei standing next to the well, holding the bamboo pole tightly. And then I heard him say that Miaomiao had fallen into the well," she said.

Chen and another woman the used the bamboo to pull Miaomiao out of the well.

Local residents were all impressed by Jiongfei's brave deed.
