Shipaiyang
Located to the west of Haitan Island and 1.4 kilometers from Kan'ao village in Su'ao town, Shipaiyang is one of the most marvelous natural wonders in Pingtan, Fujian province.
It is composed of two gigantic granite rocks of different heights standing facing each other. The higher one is 33 meters tall, while the lower one is 17 meters tall. They stand gloriously in the midstream, just like two pillars holding up the sky. In the morning fog or glow of a sunset, the sea glows with wave light, while the two stones look like two large ships cruising with hoisted sails.
Haitan Deity
Haitan Deity, located off the southern coast of Haitan Island in Pingtan, Fujian province, is a gigantic rock shaped like a man lying on a beach. Owing to its strange shape, locals have dubbed it one of Pingtan's two geological landmarks. The other one is Shipaiyang.
The Haitan Deity is 330 meters in length and 150 meters in width. From its lower part sticks out a column-shaped rock, about four meters in height with a circumference of around 4.5 meters, which local residents call the"Deity Stoneā.
Haitan Ancient City
Situated at the northern part of the Tannan Bay tourist resort in Pingtan, Fujian province, Haitan Ancient City is a large cultural tourism complex built on an island featuring a large number of buildings built in ancient architectural styles, the first tourist attraction of its kind in China.
With an investment of 8.6 billion yuan ($1.4 billion), Haitan Ancient City occupies an area of 698,000 square meters and consists of more than 150 old-style buildings, most of them two- or three-stories high, housing restaurants, snack bars, five-star hotels and souvenir stores.
Jiangjun Mountain
Jiangjun Mountain, previously known as Tiger Mountain, is located in Haitan Scenic Area in Pingtan, Fujian province.
Rising to an altitude of 104 meters, the mountain covers an area of 1.1 square kilometers. The steep cliffs and mountains running along the coastline create endless picturesque views for tourists.
In March 1996, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (CPLA) carried out a military drill on the mountain, which attracted great attention from people at home and abroad.
East China Sea Wonderland
East China Sea Wonderland scenic resort is a coastal resort located at the southern foot of Wangye Mountain in Pingtan, Fujian province. It gets its name from the mysterious cliffs and peaks stretching along the shoreline, which are said to make the place look like a wonderland.
"Fairy Well" is one of the most famous wonders in the resort. The well is about 50 meters in diameter and over 40 meters in depth. At the bottom of the well, there are two holes connecting it to the sea outside.
Nanzhai Mountain
Located in Beicuo town in the south of Pingtan Island, Nanzhai Mountain is famous for its giant animal-shaped granite rock formations.
With boulders shaped like camels, tortoises, ducks and leopards scattered across Nanzhai Mountain, the place feels like a zoo of stone animals.
Among them, the eroding peaks at the Rock Forest Scenic Spot are the most famous, namely Crocodile Peak, Fairy Peak, Sheep Peak, Eagle Peak, Frog Peak and Turtle Valley. These peaks are suitable for climbing and taking photos.
Thirty-Six Feet Lake
Thirty-Six Feet Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in South China's Fujian province, used to be the only source of fresh water for residents of the island city Pingtan.
The lake has a perimeter of 165 kilometers, occupying a gross area of 2.1 million square meters. It has a water retention capacity of 1,290 cubic meters, with a maximum water depth of up to 16 meters.
The lake's distinctive name comes from a local folk legend, according to which the Black Dragon and Carp Princess from the East China Sea once went on a tour of the lake.
Tannan Bay
Tannan Bay, situated in the southeast of Haitan Island in Pingtan, Fujian province, is one of the city's natural bathing beaches. Dubbed the"platinum coast", it has a 22-kilometer-long shoreline with enchanting seaside views.
Compared with Longfengtou, another beautiful beach in Pingtan, Tannan Bay is still a virgin land that has become increasingly popular among visitors in recent years.
You can either try your hands at beach volleyball or pitch a tent and lay back to enjoy the sunset with beer in hand.
Longfengtou Beach
Located next to Haitan Bay in Pingtan, Fujian province, Longfengtou Beach is the largest natural bathing beach in China. It is 500 meters in width and 9.5 kilometers in length, covering an area of 21 hectares in total.
The pristine white sandy beach is flanked by a thick coastal oak forest on one side, and water clear enough to see the seabed in on the other. The flat beach is also an ideal place for a variety of beach sports including beach volleyball and frisbee throwing.
Pingtan Island National Forest Park
Established in 1998, Pingtan Island National Forest Park is a national park in Pingtan, the island city in Fujian province. The park houses a forest running along a sandy beach.
Approximately 120 kilometers from Fujian province's capital, Fuzhou, the 1,295-hectare park has become one of Pingtan's most popular tourist resorts.
At the north of the park is Junshan Mountain, the highest mountain in Pingtan. Visitors can catch a panoramic view of the park from the mountain top.
