Jiangjun Mountain, previously known as Tiger Mountain, is located in Haitan Scenic Area in Pingtan, Fujian province.
Rising to an altitude of 104 meters, the mountain covers an area of 1.1 square kilometers. The steep cliffs and mountains running along the coastline create endless picturesque views for tourists.
In March 1996, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (CPLA) carried out a military drill on the mountain, which attracted great attention from people at home and abroad. During the drill, more than one hundred CPLA generals climbed up the mountain to watch the spectacular event. In April 1996, the mountain’s name was changed to Jiangjun, which means general in Chinese, in commemoration of the great drill.
The viewing stands, airports, trenches, ditches and other military facilities constructed during the drill are all still well-preserved, and Jiangjun Mountain still functions as a patriotic education base in addition to being a natural scenic spot.
