However, having Jackie play the role isn't a problem for Chinese audiences.
"The casting is good, actually much better than having Fan Bingbing or Tang Wei and all that," comments microblog user nicknamed Holy Garden.
The 1998 animated film Mulan, based on the Chinese tale The Ballad of Mulan, tells the story of a young woman named Hua Mulan who disguises herself as a man to go to war in her father's place.
Aside from Mulan, Disney is also planned to adapt other animations into live-action movies including Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland, and Dumbo.
