Ann Hui has mixed feelings about 'Golden Era' |
Hui's latest work, "The Golden Era," which is set to close this year's festival in Venice, will also be given a gala screening in Busan.
Set in the 1930s, "The Golden Era tells the story of Xiao Hong, a notable figure in modern Chinese literature.
Festival organizers said that Hui was picked for the award because of her contribution to Asian filmmaking, according to Variety.
The director is credited with pioneering Hong Kong's "golden era" of cinema.
The 10-day Busan International Film Festival begins on October 2nd of this year.
