A taxi driver in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, filed a lawsuit against the Beilin district branch of Xi’an public security bureau over a 10-day detention, Southern Metropolis Daily reported on Friday.
Surnamed Zhao, the taxi driver had an online discussion on Aug 27 with other drivers about strike action. Zhao was detained by police on Aug 31 for 10 days on the grounds that he disrupted social order.
On Oct 27, Zhao brought a lawsuit against the police for his detention. The Beilin district court accepted the lawsuit on Oct 30 and will hear the case later.
The Beilin police branch said they were not wrong in detaining Zhao as he said online that he wanted to financially support the taxi driver strike.
