BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi will visit the Republic of Korea (ROK) from November 17 to 19, at the invitation of the ROK government.
Yang will meet ROK state leaders and foreign minister, and set up a joint committee mechanism on cultural exchanges. He will also visit some economic projects, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang at a daily press briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Qin said China and ROK have maintained close high-level contact, strategic communication and reciprocal cooperation. ROK President Park Geun-hye and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached important consensus on deepening bilateral strategic cooperative ties during Park's China visit in June.
Yang's ROK visit is aimed at implementing the consensus of the two state leaders, promoting the two countries' cooperation in all areas, and discussing major global and regional issues, the spokesman said.
"We believe his visit will play a positive role for the development of China-ROK relations, enhancing mutual trust and promoting regional peace and stability," Qin said.
