A Shanghai resident picked up a stunned crocodile at the city’s expressway on the night of Aug 24, local police said.
The man, surnamed Hu, brought the crocodile home out of curiosity after finding it in a coma with its mouth sealed by a rubber band when he was driving on the Outer Ring Expressway near the Cao'an road at about 10 pm, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau said on its micro blog.
Hu found the reptile awake on Wednesday morning and called police for fear that it may harm people. The 1.63-meter, 50-kg crocodile was identified as a Siamese crocodile from Thailand. Police speculated it might have fallen off a vehicle during transportation. It will be sent to the Shanghai Zoo.
