Man, dead for days, found in apartment

An 84-year-old man, living alone, was found dead on Sunday morning in his bathtub in Shanghai.

A stray dog, which was fed by the man regularly, was the first to discover the man by whining at his door and refusing to leave, according to the Shanghai Morning Post.

The man, surnamed Chen and who had not been seen by the neighbors for days, was discovered lying in his bathtub when his family broke into his apartment on Kailu road in Yangpu district after receiving a call from the neighborhood committee. His body showed signs of decay.

Chen had lived alone in the first floor apartment since his wife passed away five years ago. Police ruled out the possibility of a homicide.

Chen's youngest daughter told Shanghai Morning Post that she and her siblings "called him almost every day" even though they couldn't visit.
