Traffic accident kills 17, injures two in SW China

CHENGDU- A traffic accident killed 17 people, including a child, and injured two others in a remote county in Southwest China's Sichuan province Wednesday, local authorities said.
The "major traffic accident," which involved a "farm vehicle" with 19 people aboard happened at about 1:35 pm in Egu township of Yajiang county in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Garze, the Sichuan provincial Work Safety Bureau announced in a statement.
The injured had been rushed to a hospital in Yajiang, the statement said.
It did not specify what the "farm vehicle" is or how the accident happened.
Local public security, traffic, work safety and health authorities are looking into the accident, the statement said.
Egu township is a remote rural area in Sichuan with poor communication capabilities.
