The US and China, whose economies are complementary in nature, are partners for mutual benefits rather than zero-sum competitors, said Wang Qishan, vice premiere of the State Council of China today during the opening ceremony of the second China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the opening ceremony of the 2nd China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue that the US and China, along with Brazil, India and other emerging economies, are in much stronger positions today to overcome the challenges ahead.
"For the moment, the biggest challenge facing the China-US economic and trade relationship is trade protectionism and the politicizing of our economic and trade issues," Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Zhong Shan said.
"Today, our relationship has the ability to shape the 21st century, making it as important as any bilateral relationship in the world," President Obama said.
Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Friday called for frank dialogues between the political parties of China and the United States to promote long-term, healthy and stable bilateral ties.
