Investigators inspect a burned bus in Shanghai, May 5, 2008. Three passengers were killed and 12 others injured in the incident. The cause of the explosion is still yet unknown. [xmnext.com]

The accident, initially suspected of being caused by natural burn, came at a time when the city is ready to embrace the torch relay of Beijing Olympics in two weeks time and is celebrating the two-year countdown for Shanghai World Expo.

Local police has tightened the security patrol in the financial hub, populated by more than 20 million, with measures including checking up large parcels on subways.

The bus company declined to comment on the issue. But witnesses said some passengers were trapped because the air-conditioned two-door bus had windows sealed and one door stuck shut, only leaving the other open.
