Zhou Fenying had just married when she was abducted by Japanese soldiers.
Zhou Fenying, born in Baipu township, Rugao county, Jiangsu province, in 1920, is blind. Japanese soldiers set up a military brothel shortly after they invaded Rugao county, and kidnapped local women to work as "comfort women". Zhou, who had just been married, was captured along with more than 20 other young women. She cried every day in the military brothel, hurting her eyes in the process, and eventually lost sight in both eyes.
