Nearly 6,300 viewers commented on the movie on Douban.com, China's most popular movie-review site, which resulted in it getting a score of 8.8 of 10.
Human also gained recognition in Chinese film circles by beating nearly 1,500 contenders to win the best feature award in the documentary section of the 2016 Beijing International Film Festival in April.
Supporting the view that the film is special, Yang Shiyang, a Beijing-based critic, says: "Even viewers who've never heard of Human will be attracted by its oil painting-like sequences ... Despite the consensus that an interesting tale must be dramatic, Human just uses plain narration to showcase the most delicately dramatic moments in ordinary lives."
