China shows support for Hungary-Serbia railway construction

Premier Li Keqiang vowed on Saturday that China is willing to continue to help build the flagship project Hungary-Serbia Railway and achieve win-win results when meeting with both European countries' prime ministers.

The railway was designed to link the capitals of Hungary and Serbia, Budapest and Belgrade, in total length of 350 km and maximum speed of 200 km per hour.

Last November, China signed separate deals with Hungary and Serbia to construct and revamp the rail link. And the Serbian section of 180 km began construction at the end of last year.

The time it takes to transport freight between China and Europe will be significantly shortened when the railway is complete, which will boost economic development of countries along the line, Premier Li said when meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

When separately meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Premier Li also called for further pragmatic cooperation, in fields such as highway construction and the construction of Hungary-Serbia railway to benefit people of both countries.
