PYONGYANG - Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been appointed chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the official KCNA news agency reported early Thursday.
The appointment was made during the fourth WPK conference on Wednesday, said the report.
The conference also appointed Kim as a member of the political bureau of the Party Central Committee, and a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee, it added.
Earlier, the KCNA reported that the party conference had endorsed Kim as first secretary of the WPK, a new post created for the party's supreme leader.
Kim was appointed as vice chairman of the party's Central Military Commission during the party's conference on September 28, 2010.
