JAKARTA - An Indonesian senior police officer said that Jakarta police headquarters will station officers at several temples and other gathering places expected to be busy during the celebration of Chinese New Year on Monday next week, a local media reported on Tuesday .
"We will fan out around places of worship and crowded spots. The number of officers will be determined by each area commander according to local requirements," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Commr. Rikwanto said as quoted by the Jakarta Globe daily.
He said that shopping centers and tourism spots were likely to be included on the list of patrolled areas.
"Besides securing places of worship, there tend to be traffic jams at shopping areas and tourist destinations such as Ancol, Ragunan (zoo), Taman Mini and Monas (the Jakarta square)," Rikwanto said.
