Former world record holder and 2004 Olympic champion Liu Xiang crashed out of the London Games on Tuesday, after falling in the first heat of the 110-meter hurdles.
Liu's stumble at the first hurdle shocked, saddened and disappointed supporters, both inside the Olympic Stadium and at home.
The Chinese had high hopes that the 29-year-old would reclaim the gold he won at the 2004 Games and put behind him the disappointment of the Beijing Games.
Liu's win in Athens made him the first Chinese man to claim an Olympic track and field gold medal and turned him into a national superstar.
