BEIJING - The painting We are All Her Children by Lin Xiyuan of Tongji University won the gold medal at the fifth University Cartoon Competition on Environmental Protection (UCCEP) at Tsinghua University on Dec 9, 2010. Lin's painting beat out 3,000 paintings from all over the world.
The UCCEP, which started at Tibet University in July 2010, has organized a tour, lectures and other activities at 16 universities across the country. Thousands of students from more than 100 colleges and universities took part in the competition. The UCCEP received 3,126 works from nine countries and regions. After careful review, the judges awarded one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, as well as 80 excellence awards.
The competition was hosted by China Daily, Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade Organizing Committee, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), EU-China Biodiversity Programme (ECBP), China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), China Journalistic Caricature Society, China Daily Website, and the 21st Century English Educational Media's International College Students Competition.
Deputy chief editor of China Daily Kang Bing, Vice-Minister of the 26th Universiade Organizing Committee Li Shibiao and other sponosor representatives attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
President of China Daily Website Zhang Xingbo, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of General office at China Daily Zhu Baoxia, Public Affairs Manager of the International Fund for Animal Welfare He Yong, famous cartoonist Xu Pengfei, Xu Jin, Chang Jun Iron, as well as participating institutions' teachers and student representatives attended the award ceremony.
Kang Bing said he hopes more young people will show their spiritual thinking, creativity and environmental protection concepts with a brush. "Let comics and environmental protection join together, China and the world join together. Let us work together to protect our homeland," he said.
