31-year-old police officer Wan Jingang lost his life when protecting people at July fifth riot in Urumqi. Thousands of people from the city came to pay their last respects to the hero.
Wan Jingang was a squadron leader in the Xinjiang Armed Police Contingent. He was patrolling the streets when a group of riots started to attack passengers on a bus at round 7:40 pm. of the day. Wan Jingang tried his best to help the passengers get away from the attack, but he himself was hit and later died of the severe injury.
Wan used to have a close Uygur friend named Jumahong, and Wan had helped the family worth more than five thousand yuan. Jumahong and his 94-year-old mother were among the sorrow crowd. Wan's colleagues say they will follow Wan's step to continue to guard the country.
