Students' safety comes first

Xinjiang Medical University was attacked by mobs when the deadly riot erupted in Urumqi on July 5.

Three days after the riot, in which 156 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured, China Daily reporter visited the campus.

Although students say they still feel frightened, normalcy seem to have returned to the university campus.

The canteen operates as usual busy with teachers and students lining up for noodles and fried rice.

Students say they feel safer with the special arrangement made by the university for security guards to walk them home.
