Urumqi people resume daily life

Efforts are being made to ensure fresh food supplies and stable prices in Urumqi, and restore international trade in the city.

This is the biggest wholesale market selling agricultural products in Urumqi. The manager of the market says the number of customers has returned to 80 percent its usual level.

It's now harvest season for vegetables and fruit in Xinjiang. The market is organizing the sellers to resume purchasing to ensure sufficient supplies and stable prices.

Most public transport has resumed, with security personnel on buses to ensure passengers' safety.

Urumqi is an export center, connecting with central and West Asia. The international trade mall closed because of the riot. But now it is ready to reopen. Some foreign traders say the riot will not the influence the trade between China and foreign countries.

Trader from Kazakhstan, said, "Peace has gradually returned to the streets these last two days and the local government has stepped up security. We feel safe and more traders will come."

Trader from Kazakhstan, said,"I was really upset to see what happened on July 5th. It was done by separatists. We hope for a stable Chinese society with all ethnic groups living in harmony. "

This market attracts 100 thousand foreign purchasers every year, with an annual export volume of one billion US dollars. The manager is promising to reopen it as soon as possible.
