The exhibition “Jin Shangyi: Works from His Donation to Museums” opened at the National Art Museum of China on May 17.
The 39 oil paintings and sketches donated by Jin in 2008 to the Museum, have been combined with various other works found throughout museums across China, and the whole reflects an incredible artist whose work spans more than half a century.
Famous masterpieces such as The Bride of Tajik, The Young Singer and People from the Ba Dashan feature prominently.
According to Fan Di’an, Director of the National Art Museum of China, The Bride of Tajik will definitely become the museum’s Mona Lisa.
As a representative artist in modern oils, Jin pays much attention to the expression of the human body under the effect of light.
As for his donation, he believes a museum is the best home for any artwork to return to.
And for art lovers they have until May 25 to catch a glimpse of one of China’s finest living oil painters.
