As part of a program called Classical Art Lecture, a charitable activity is held in the National Center for the Performing Arts today. Students and teachers from the Beijing Sun Village Special Children Aid Center and the Beijing Zhiguang Special Education and Training School are the special audience.
They were led on a tour around the National Center for the Performing Arts, also known as The Egg, prior to the lecture. All of them were first-time visitors, with curiosity and excitement radiating from their faces.
The lecture entitled "Learn to sing Chinese Folk Songs" was delivered by Qian Rong, a senior professor of the Central Conservatory of Music. Make sure everyone present could sing at least one song was not as simple as it seemed.
Qian Rong, Professor of the Central Conservatory of Music "I have intentionally selected the song with simple melody and easy to sing. I'll teach them patiently by singing and illustrating. Hopefully, the song will help the children to create a sense of national pride for our country's cultural heritage."
During today's activity, a number of celebrities volunteered to show their love, such as Liu Xiao Ling Tong, the hugely popular actor who was known for his universally acclaimed portrayal of Monkey King and Li Chen, the famous singer who suffers from polio.
Over the past ten years, as a non-governmental charitable organization, Sun Village has been dedicated to providing love, care and education for the children of convicts while Zhiguang Special Education and Training School has made meaningful contributions to students with intellectual disabilities. Thankfully, under the auspices of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, those children are now gifted with an opportunity to have a taste of classical art.
After the lecture, the children presented their elaborately designed embroidery as a token of their appreciation after receiving several photo albums carefully prepared by the National Center for the Performing Arts. Then, they performed "Grateful Heart", the most popular song in Sun Village, with sign language. The program, Classical Art Lecture, aims to let people of every description have easy access to the classical art through a series of exchanges and lectures. By the end of November 2008, as many as 200 classical art lectures have been held.
